Some of you have probably read the email/article going around "Why I will vote for Noynoy" by (someone pretending to be) Winnie Monsod. (Fake) Winnie said she will support Noynoy in 2010 because

• he stands for clean governance and appear willing to accomplish this - Don’t they all claim the same thing? I will concede that Villar most definitely lies every time he says it but is Noynoy the only one who is believable?
• he has the best chance of preventing a[n] opportunistic businessman from using the Office of the President as a personal growth asset to his business empire – Yes he can prevent Villar from doing that but how about everyone else? How about his maternal relatives, the Cojuancos? Remember the “Rela-thieves” and “Kamag-anaks, Inc?” What about them? Can he control his powerful, rich and politically connected relatives when even his mother couldn’t? 
• Noynoy's clean record is a big plus for me – True. I will graciously concede this point.

For Noynoy supporters, the only dirt in his otherwise clean record is his involvement in Hacienda Luisita. However, (fake) Winnie goes on to say that

• Noynoy only owns .04% of Hacienda Luisita, a drop in the ocean and hardly in any position to do something about it – Am I supposed to believe that his political connections added to those of his very powerful and influential late mother AND the equally powerful and influential voice of his youngest sister can’t force the other owners of the hacienda to give up their stolen lands? Pfft.

  Noynoy claims he’s been telling his family that they should let go of their shares even before the Hacienda Luicita massacre of 2004 happened. That was 6 years ago. Why are they still part owners? There are no excuses.

• Nonoy also has an incredible legacy to live up to. <snip> He can't afford to tarnish the Aquino name and the immense legacy that his parents left behind – I thought we don’t like political dynasties? So why are we voting for leaders on the basis of what their parents’ did?! This is no different from the medieval thinking that sons deserved to be kings by virtue of their parentage.

  A person must be judged by his own merits and not those of his parents’.

We all have to make a choice. In my opinion, it has to go to the presidentiable who

• has an independent mind – I agree completely.
• stands up for what he believes in – I agree completely.
• is clean – I agree completely.
• and has the legacy [of] his parents to live up to and maintain. – No. Family legacy is not a good criterion when choosing who to vote for. I will not vote for someone because of whom or what his parents were. I will not vote for a man as my next president simply because his father died as a martyr and his mother was an icon of democracy.
• He does not need a degree from Harvard. – I agree completely.
• He does not need to have a multi-million peso business to show me he can make us all rich. – I agree completely.
• He does not have to speak well. – Perhaps. However, leaders must be good communicators. Otherwise, they are ineffective and, therefore, useless.
• He just has to be clean. Nothing else should matter. – Our next president has to be clean. But that’s not all that matters. Our next president must be efficient! Must have political will so he can deliver his promises. All his cleanliness will account for nothing if he can’t achieve anything due to incompetence! You can’t push for "honesty, reform and good governance" if no one listens to you because you don’t have a backbone. We will just end up back to square one – a wholly useless government. Corrupt to the very bones.

Vote wisely Philippines. Indeed, vote wisely. If you want to vote for Noynoy, go ahead. Di ko pagpipilitan sa’yo chosen candidate ko. BUT! Vote for Noynoy because you honest to goodness believe he is the best man for the job. If you’re voting for him due to loyalty to Cory and Ninoy, step back and think because you are doing everyone a disservice! Vote for Noynoy because of what he himself achieved and because of his capabilities and skills. Vote for Noynoy because of his agendas, his ambitions, his skills, his experiences. Don’t vote for him simply because he is an Aquino dahil kung isang Aquino lang naman ang gusto nyo, mas malaki ang winnability ni Kris.
